Spanish Bloggers: Digg is Buying Meneame and CoRankMashable!

This tantalizing rumor has reared its head before: the concept that news site Digg is set to buy the Spanish Digg site Meneame and the “build your own Digg” service CoRank. Now some Spanish bloggers are saying the deal might be on, citing statements from both companies promising “huge news” within a few days, and a friend of the two companies plus blogging on the topic.

We first covered that notion back in early November in two stories located here and here.

Now the buzz in the Spanish blogosphere is that the companies will be bought by Digg by the end of the calendar year. The Meneame blog promises the huge news and coRank’s blog (entries in Spanish) says “in a few days I hope to publish huge news”. Meanwhile, a third party Spanish blogger, the one said to be friends with

both companies, says the deal is going ahead.

With the rumors that Digg may be looking into the possibility of selling itself, you have to wonder whether they are looking at purchases to sweeten their asking price, or was all that talk to entice citizens into selling?

Based on the way these rumors get tossed around, we’re skeptical, and mails to the companies probably won’t be returned until after Christmas. Either way, it looks like there may be a lot of new Digg news coming our way in the very near future.

(thanks to Spanish Mashable reader, Javier, for the heads up)
